Why do so many Web3 projects have great tech (or they claim so) but terrible UX?

Let’s be honest, Web3 has no shortage of brilliant tech, but so many dApps still feel like using a tool made for engineers by engineers.
Why does UX take a backseat? What tradeoffs are devs making? And most importantly, what can we do to improve this without compromising decentralization?

Share your favorite examples (good or bad), tools that helped you simplify user flows, or even the weirdest UX pain point you’ve come across!

My worst experience was a play to earn game that you have to sign a transaction every time i triggered the bullet

Lol, agree! It often feels like people working on the project just build stuff they personally like, completely ignoring what’s trending or actually wanted by the community.

Sometimes tech people forget that not everyone is as familiar with their products as they are, and they really should start from the simplest point possible.

In my opinion, explanations should begin with the most basic and straightforward questions. And if it takes more than one sentence to explain something simple, then there is a problem, and it has to be simplified.

Devil’s advocate - does a traditionally “good” UX detract from its strategic advantages of being a blockchain app?

We used to say that the ultimate goal is to have blockchain work in the background and have a UX so clean that users don’t know it’s using blockchain. We actually are seeing quite a few apps and programs that function this way currently.

Problem is, they often don’t get the benefit of being a “blockchain” app, which brings along with it direct and easy access to the crypto community. At that point you’re competing against web2 apps, not web3 apps. The feel of the app makes it neither here nor there.

I think so Most Web3 projects are started by developers who care more about the technology, security, and decentralization than about making things easy to use. They focus on what can be built, not how simple it is for people to use.

I think the key is making an app both feel like web3 AND ease-of-use. A tricky balance for sure, but every other industry does it - why not web3?

Totally agree - too many dApps feel like puzzles only devs can solve. UX shouldn’t be an afterthought. Small wins like better onboarding or cleaner wallet flows can go a long way. Curious to see what others have tried!
