Taco for web3. Should Metis have its own social fabric?

Here’s a simple thought:
What if everyone in the Metis ecosystem had a visible reputation signal:

  • Easy to give.
  • Easy to earn.
  • Hard to fake.

A lightweight social layer that lives between all the discussions and chats.

Slack has :taco:. What if Metis had something like that?

A dead-simple social layer where anyone can give taco :taco::
→ for helping
→ for building
→ for showing up

No tokens. No friction. Just trust that sticks to your wallet. What would it take to make this the most-used dapp on Metis? Would love to hear from everyone about this idea and if we’re possible to make it work?

That never happens. In the best case scenario, you’ll end up with yet another Galaxy Passport. In the worst case, it’ll just be a pointless waste of money for points.

Perhaps there is a specific vision for how this will look? I’m sure many companies are struggling with this.

Good idea. We should think about it.

Love the idea! Quick question: how would this reputation system tie into on-chain identity or wallets. would tacos be public, private, or wallet-bound?

Well thats a good topic, but to build such a similar platform is challenging without stimulation. So how to stimulate Metis community to use it ?

Totally fair take, and I agree that most systems end up either too easy to game or too meaningless to matter. But for me, the difference comes down to social context. The real goal here isn’t just rewards, it’s to create a symbol of culture.

Something lightweight but meaningful that strengthens the emotional bond between users and the ecosystem. When people see it, they instantly know “You’re one of us”

That shared recognition is what builds belonging, not points. Galxe Passport, or any kinds of NFT is useful for tracking participation, but it’s still campaign-driven. It doesn’t foster the cultural layer that makes people stay, not just show up.

Actually this is just my raw idea so far, not fully fleshed out yet. Maybe start by seeding core users with some kind of reputation “currency” and create special recognition periods to encourage use. Making it visible on profiles and social posts could help build real connections.

Would love to brainstorm more and find the best way to make it stick

Bridging social actions like “tacos” on X to on-chain identity can definitely get complex and expensive if fully automated. Here is what I think and would love to hear the feedback.

A practical way to start is to track those social interactions off-chain via a bot and keep reputation points in a centralized database. Then, on a regular schedule, users can link their wallets to claim or mint their earned badges on-chain. This batching approach reduces gas costs and complexity but still ties reputation to on-chain identity.

This system also helps stimulate engagement by rewarding visible, meaningful contributions users recognize within the community, giving them a real sense of belonging that’s connected to their wallet.

The vision is a simple, visible culture token that shows you belong to Metis, not just points, but real connection. Many struggle with this, but making it meaningful and organic is key. Still early, but that’s the idea.

Thanks for sharing this thoughtful approach! I really like the balance you’re proposing between managing complexity and keeping costs low while still linking social reputation to on-chain identity. Using off-chain tracking with periodic on-chain claims seems like a smart, scalable solution that could encourage more meaningful community engagement without overwhelming users with gas fees.

Would be great to explore how to ensure the bot’s accuracy and prevent gaming of the system, but overall this feels very practical and promising. Looking forward to seeing how it evolves!

i think it aligns with metis image, community governance. it will hve to be metered and cordinated.
it will help individual reach a meaninful resolution faster. maybe something like only trust 3 members can give tacos and stuff. really helpful suggestion.

I highlighted a workable process for the feature you mentioned you can heck and see if it aligns with your thought.

i thought this a feature solely to make metis improve better, or what do you mean ?
