Problem Statement

Cryptocurrency transfers on Metis are irreversible and prone to human error, causing anxiety and financial loss when users make mistakes with wallet addresses or transaction details. This fear of irreversible mistakes is a major barrier to mainstream adoption of Metis Layer 2 solutions, especially for new users seeking to benefit from its scalability and low fees.

Solution Overview

ProtectedPay introduces an escrow-like protection layer for Metis transactions, holding funds in smart contracts until recipients actively claim them. Users can send funds using simple usernames instead of complex wallet addresses, and senders can recover funds if mistakes are made. Our AI-powered validation system prevents common transaction errors before they occur, making crypto transfers as safe as traditional banking while maintaining Metis’s high-speed, low-cost efficiency.

Project Description

ProtectedPay transforms cryptocurrency transfers on Metis from a risky, one-way transaction into a secure, user-friendly experience. The platform’s core features include:

  • Protected Transfers: All transactions are held in secure smart contracts until claimed, providing a safety net for both parties
  • Username-Based Sending: Users can send funds using memorable usernames instead of complex wallet addresses
  • AI-Powered Validation: Vibe Coding integration validates transaction details and prevents common errors
  • Group Payment System: Built-in functionality for splitting bills and managing shared expenses
  • Real-Time Transaction Tracking: Live status updates and progress tracking for all transfers
  • Smart Refund System: Automatic refund capability for unclaimed or mistaken transfers

What excites us most is the potential to remove the anxiety from crypto transfers, making Metis Layer 2 accessible to mainstream users while leveraging its ultra-fast finality and minimal transaction costs.

Really thoughtful solution bridging the UX gap with safety nets like username-based transfers and claimable funds could truly ease mainstream onboarding into Metis. :locked::rocket:

Curious: Will ProtectedPay integrate with popular Metis wallets and dApps natively, or will users interact through a standalone interface first?

Hello @Spydiecy , I have some questions to ask

  1. How is the username-to-address mapping managed? Is it stored on-chain, and how do you prevent phishing or impersonation using lookalike usernames?
  2. What’s the default claim window before funds are refunded and is this customizable per user or transaction type?

Hello @Spydiecy

What kind of mistakes does your AI validation system catch? Does it look at the details of the transaction, how users behave, or who they’re connected to?"

Native integration is the end goal. We’re starting with a standalone interface for rapid development, then expanding to SDK integrations with major Metis wallets and dApps.

The vision: seamless protected transfers across the entire Metis ecosystem - users get safety features whether they’re in MetaMask, DEXs, or any other application. The protection becomes invisible infrastructure that just works.

Great to hear! Making security seamless and native across Metis will definitely boost user trust and adoption. Looking forward to seeing it in action.

Claim Window: Currently no time limit - funds stay in the contract until claimed. We might add customizable time limits later if needed.

Username System:

  • Testnet: First-come-first-served
  • Mainnet: Bidding war system for premium usernames (like Twitter/X)
  • Marketplace: Users can trade/sell usernames
  • Similar usernames: Each is unique, users need to verify carefully themselves

Simple and flexible approach that creates value for good usernames while keeping the core functionality straightforward.

Our AI validation system catches:

Blacklisted addresses - Those flagged by major sites for money laundering, sanctions, etc. won’t be payable.

DEX addresses - Currently blocked since they don’t have our claim tech. Will work once we integrate with them.

Simple protection against known bad actors while we expand compatibility across the ecosystem.
