Metis Expected Sequencer Mining Rewards Rate (MRR) Update

Following a measured adjustment in Metis L2 block production speed, the expected Mining Rewards Rate (MRR) for Decentralized Sequencer Mining is being updated from approximately 15% to approximately 10%.

The underlying reward economics remain unchanged: the BLOCK_REWARD on the LockingPool contract is still 0.01247842237 METIS per block.

Why the update

The MRR formula is straightforward:

Pool MRR = (BLOCK_REWARD × blocks_per_year) / total_locked

Over the past year, the average L2 block time has increased from around 12 seconds to roughly 17–18 seconds. Since the reward per block is fixed on-chain, fewer blocks produced over the same period naturally result in lower total rewards distributed across the pool.

To reflect current network conditions more accurately, the expected MRR has therefore been recalibrated to approximately 10%.

What we’re working on

Block-time performance remains an active area of focus. We will continue monitoring sequencer operations and will keep the community updated if any further adjustments to the expected MRR become necessary.

All figures can be reproduced directly on-chain via LockingPool and MetisSequencerSet.
