Hyper Siege – A Web3 Tower Defense Game

Problem Statement

  • Traditional Web3 games often struggle with latency and transaction bottlenecks, hindering real-time experiences.
  • Players demand engaging, interactive gameplay with true asset ownership and dynamic economies.
  • HyperHack calls for innovative dApps showcasing Hyperion’s high-performance capabilities.

Solution Overview

Hyper Siege – A Web3 tower defense game built for speed, strategy, and seamless interaction with Hyperion.

Hyper Siege is:

  • A fast-paced, competitive tower defense game where players build, upgrade, and defend against enemy waves in real-time.
  • Features NFT-based towers, player-influenced PvE, and intense PvP arena battles.
  • Leverages Hyperion’s unique architecture for a truly responsive Web3 gaming experience.

Project Description

A video game that mixes strategic NFT tower deployment with the thrill of high-speed action against dynamic, on-chain enemy waves.

Core Gameplay & Features:

NFT-Based Towers:

  • Towers are mintable NFTs with unique traits (range, fire rate, special abilities) and upgrade paths.
  • Players truly own their defensive assets.

On-Chain Enemy Waves (Dynamic PvE):

  • Enemy spawns are managed by smart contracts.
  • Players can spend tokens to influence wave difficulty for themselves or even opponents in specific modes, creating dynamic challenges.

PvP Tower Defense Arena:

  • Real-time, head-to-head battles (e.g., Clash Royale TD style).
  • Players send waves of enemies to their opponent while defending their own base.
  • Critical game state and actions are on-chain for verifiable fairness.

Why Hyper Siege Shines on Hyperion (The “Fit”)

Real-Time Gameplay Needs:

  • Challenge: PvP battles, rapid tower placements, and enemy wave mechanics demand instant feedback.
  • Hyperion Solution: Sub-second Finality ensures actions feel immediate. Parallel Execution allows multiple game events (attacks, defenses, upgrades) to process simultaneously without bottlenecks.

Complex On-Chain Logic & NFTs:

  • Challenge: Managing NFT tower states, upgrades, and dynamic enemy wave parameters on-chain requires efficient data handling.
  • Hyperion Solution: State-Aware Caching + MetisDB optimize on-chain game state reads/writes. Ethereum compatibility (Solidity) allows for robust smart contract development using familiar tools.

High User Activity & Scalability:

  • Challenge: Supporting numerous players engaging in fast-paced loops.
  • Hyperion Solution: Hyperion’s architecture is designed for high-throughput performance, ensuring the game can scale with its user base.

Fairness in Competition:

  • Challenge: Ensuring fair play in PvP, preventing front-running.
  • Hyperion Solution: Decentralized Sequencing (Upcoming) will enhance fairness in competitive scenarios.

Tech Stack

  • Game Engine: Unity (for rich 2D/3D graphics and game logic)
  • Web3 Integration: Thirdweb SDK (for seamless wallet connection, smart contract interaction, NFT minting)
  • Blockchain: Hyperion
  • Smart Contracts: Solidity
  • Supporting Tools: Metis SDK

Community Engagement Features

To boost user involvement and testing for Hyper Siege, we’re launching a gamified campaign. Users will earn points by completing specific tasks like:

  • Onboarding: Connecting wallets, finishing tutorials.
  • Gameplay: Playing PvE/PvP matches, using dynamic wave features.
  • NFTs: Minting and upgrading NFT towers.
  • Community: Giving feedback and referring friends.

This gamifies the experience through progression, leaderboards, and potential rewards, while encouraging user onboarding and platform growth by guiding new users and incentivizing participation.

Hello @Iskream23

  1. How does tower ownership impact game balance in PvP?
  2. Can users trade or rent their NFT towers with others — and is there a marketplace planned for that?
  3. How does MetisDB specifically help in storing and reading tower upgrade states during fast gameplay?

Hi @priyankg3,

Thank you for your questions.

Victory will depend more on strategic tower placement, synergistic combinations, resource management during the match, and adapting to opponent strategies, rather than just owning the ‘best’ tower. Even powerful towers will have counters or specific weaknesses.

Yes, absolutely. Because towers are NFTs on Hyperion, players will have the inherent ability to trade them on any compatible NFT marketplace, or peer-to-peer if they choose.

I think MetisDB will act as an optimized data layer, ensuring that reading and writing tower upgrade states are swift and don’t impede the real-time flow of the game.

Hello @Iskream23

  • Will the real-time PvP mode offer matchmaking based on player skill or NFT level?
  • How does the game ensure that NFT upgrades don’t create overpowered loops, especially in PvP?

Hello @Cryptopotato

Great questions! I think it would be wiser to test and iterate on the PVP part, so it will be mostly fair.
