the X algorithm has changed again. but this time we’re not guessing.
with the latest open-source release from the X engineering team @XEng , plus fresh commentary from @nikitabier and @elonmusk , we now have one of the clearest pictures yet of how content gets distributed. let’s take a look.
engagement is weighted
replies, bookmarks, and dwell time are worth more than likes.
mutes, blocks, and reports hurt your future reach.
reputation is real
accounts that post high-quality content (and avoid spammy behavior) are rewarded.
verified or premium accounts get distribution boosts.
topic fit matters
the algorithm builds a profile for each user. if your post doesn’t match their interest model, it won’t show up no matter how good it is.
links aren’t banned, but…
fast bounces after a click (that’s when someone clicks, then quickly stops viewing the content) signal low quality. native posts (posts with no links to anything external) get better reach.
so what should we do?
• stick to your lane: post daily on one niche you know well.
• balance depth and reach: mix value posts with occasional memes or hot takes.
• be human: humor and personality still matter.
• post natively: Treat X like a home, not a funnel.
• engage well: credible reposts and comments help you more than raw views.
things to avoid:
• liking your own posts
• running engagement pods or bots
• pumping out AI filler or LinkedIn-style fluff
• dropping cold links without context
